CAF U- 17: Mali top Group A to set up a semi – final berth against Guinea

11TH EDITION OF THE AFRICAN U-17 CHAMPIONSHIPBoubacar Traore scored his third goal of the CAF U – 17 championship with a cool finish on 34th minute to give Mali to a 1-0 win over defending champions Cote d’Ivoire which saw them top Group B to set up a date against Guinea, Group ‘A’ runners-up.

South Africa’s Amajimbos beat Cameroon 3-1 to move to five points and finish second behind Mali’s young eagles at the Stade Seyni Kountche. Amajimbos’ win set them for a semi-final clash against Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets and also sealed their FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 spot. Therefore, Nigeria, Mali, South Africa and Guinea will represent Africa in Chile.

At the Stade Municipal, Mali was entirely dominant with a lot of missed chances which Start List: Côte D'Ivoire vs. Malicould have won them the match by more than a goal. Aly Malle, Mohammed Haidara, Sekou Koita and Sidiki Maiga all missed glorious chances to add to Traore’s goal. The Baby Elephants were not able to score their best chances that fell for Idrissa Doumbia and Baba Lamine Traore.

An own goal by Fokem Achielle and a brace from skipper Nelson Maluleke from the spot and a beautiful finish by Amajimbos gave South Africa a big win against Cameroon. Cameroon’s only goal was scored by Christian Bayemi as they exited the tournament without a point.
