A brace from Christian Atsu has helped Black Stars beat Guinea 3-0 in Malabo and earned a semi- final berth in their fifth successive Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana was on the path to a comfortable quarter-final victory when Atsu opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Kwesi Appiah increased their lead a minute before the interval.
Again Atsu saw his cross find the net on 61st minute to pit Ghana against Equatorial Guinea on Thursday. Guinea’s Cup of Nations outing ends without winning a game whilst the Black Stars harden their resolve to win the Gold for the first time since 1982.
The Guineans got through to the quarter-finals knockout stage thanks to the drawing of lots with Mali after drawing all three of their group games. Michel Dussuyer’s team never looked like causing an upset here. They also finished the match with 10 men after keeper Naby Yattara was sent off just before the final whistle.
Ghana took the lead from their first attack from the left before a backheel from Andre Ayew gave Atsu an easy finish.
It was for Guinea to find a way back into the game but
their misery was compounded right at the end when goalkeeper Yattara was shown a straight red card for bringing down Gyan on the edge of the penalty box as the Ghana striker had an eye for goal.
