In their Group B match on Thursday at the Estadio de Ebebiyin, DR Congo and Cape Verde held each other to a scoreless draw : the second draw by both teams that leaves them with two points. Tunisia leads the pack after an exciting encounter with Zambia that ended 2-1 earlier in the day.
The Congolese lost their Captain Yousuf Mulumbu through injury and was substituted by Nelson Munganga after 20 minutes of play. Yannick Bolasie saw his long drive saved in the opening half of the match by Cape Verde goalkeeper Josimar Dias in one of the few attacks on goal.
The Blue Sharks also had few attempts with Jailton Miranda and Ryan Mendes before and after the break.
Bolasie, the Crystal Palace striker was given no space by his markers who watched his every move and whilst his skills and speed failed him. Loteteka Bokila came in his stead.
The Sharks were dangerous with their counter-attacking play which was always led by Ryan Mendes and Heldon Ramos who replaced Julio Tavares in the second half. The Leopards escaped with their breath after a corner-kick taken by Ramos forced veteran Muteba Kidiaba to make a save from a Miranda shot before Joel Kimwaki timely cleared the danger in the 84th minute.
Moments later, the TP Mazembe keeper displayed his fabulous skills yet again by coming off his line to block a shot from Heldon at close range following a speedy counter- attack by Cape Verde.
Both teams could’nt break each other’s resolve, thus they had to settle for another draw leaving them two points behind Tunisia.
