Kelechi Nwakali scored late for Nigeria from the penalty spot to rescue a point against 10-man Guinea as both sides kept alive their hopes of advancing at the CAF U – 17 championship in Niamey.
Guinea took the lead when Sam Diallo scored in the 13th minute. Pressure from the Guinea attack was made to bear on the Eaglets’ defence as a result Zakaria Halilu brought down Toure in the box and referee Jean Jacques Ngsmbo pointed to the spot.
The Guineans could have increased their lead but and play maker Karim Conte and Sam Diallo squandered their chances.
NIgeria started the second half with renewed vigour and could have equalised through Kingsley Michael for his effort in the box. Strikes from Kelechi, Victor Osimeh and Christian Charles were well saved by Keeper Moussa Camara whose acrobatic skills made him the crowd’s favourite.
However, Camara could do virtually nothing when Kelechi stepped up to score from the spot and brought parity with only three minutes remaining to the end. Guinea skipper Moussa Soumah having been sent off after a second yellow card.
The draw leaves both teams on four points each from two games. They have to wait for their final Group matches to determine the semi-finalists who will earn spots in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, Chile 2015.
