A Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, Senegal 2015 has been inaugurated by the Senegalese Minister of Sports with Maitre Augustin Senghor, President of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) as Chairperson.
The Tournament is scheduled from November 28 – December 12, 2015 in the Senegalese cities of Dakar and M’bour the same venues that hosted the Africa U-20 Championship in the first quarter of this year.
Chairperson Senghor in a brief remark after the inauguration by Minister of Sports, Hon. Matar Ba called on the committee who were members of the previous LOC that organised the Orange CAF U-20 tournament to come together and work towards another successful tournament.
“It will be about the same budget (1.6 billion CFA francs) like the U-20 competition. However, the organizing committee will meet to release the official budget and all information will be made available to the press,” he noted.
The qualified teams are Algeria, Egypt, Mali, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia, Zambia and Senegal (host).
The top three teams at the tournament will represent Africa at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the fourth placed team facing an Asian side in a playoff.
The draw for the tournament has been scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2015 at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
