Serrekunda East have been crowned the 2014 Premier Games-sponsored Super Nawaetan Champions after beating Bakau 5-4 in penalty shoot-out. Serrekunda East last lifted the trophy in 2009, when they defeated the same opponent, Bakau.
They emerged winners of the encounter played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium last evening in front of a record crowd which packed the mini stadium. The game which was graced by dignitaries from the football fraternity was keenly contested, but failed to produce a goal in the 90 minutes period. It would also be recalled that the two sides met in the group stage of the competition, but settled for a 1-1 draw.Serrekunda East received the winner’s price – a giant trophy and D70, 000; while runners-up Bakau bagged a trophy and of D50, 000.
Most disciplined team and most supported fan zone of the competition were won by Sukuta whilst Ebou Sanyang’s three (3) goals for Serrekunda East earned him the leading goal-scorer price.
